With gas prices on the rise and used vehicles less accessible than before, it’s no wonder why drivers are turning to electric options when shopping for new cars. Fortunately, BMW’s lineup of electric and hybrid offerings is better than ever with plentiful options to choose from. Here’s a breakdown of new BMW hybrid cars available at Fields BMW Orlando.

BMW Hybrids: All-Electric vs. Plug-In

Before we jump into actual models, it’s important to know the difference between each type of electric vehicle that BMW offers. There are three basic types of electric vehicles:

  • Hybrid: a vehicle that is powered by an internal combustion engine as well as an electric motor, which is charged internally by the vehicle itself.
  • Plug-in hybrid: a vehicle that uses batteries to power an electric motor, and uses gasoline to power an internal combustion engine. The batteries can be charged through the vehicle, or can be plugged into a charging outlet.
  • All-electric vehicle: a vehicle that only uses batteries to power its electric motor, and which can be recharged through a charging outlet.

BMW Plug-In Hybrid Models

A plug-in hybrid model has been introduced for much of BMW’s lineup, including the 2022 BMW 7 series, 5 series, X5 series, and 3 series. Driving ranges can reach up to 400 miles on a single charge, and the automaker has more than 35,000 Level 2 chargers nationwide that drivers can access for a plug-in.

2022 BMW i4 and iX

BMW is stepping up its electric game in 2022 with the rollout of two all-new fully electric models: the 2022 BMW i4, and the 2022 BMW iX — a midsize sedan and SUV, respectively. The latter’s impressive 300-plus-mile driving range per charge is supported by a large, fast-charging 105.2-kWh battery pack. Its fuel efficiency is equally impressive, ranging well over 80 MPG on both the highway and in the city.
