To be a responsible car owner, it’s important to have a basic understanding of how your BMW works. While you don’t need to be an expert, there are some common BMW parts you should know about, which we can tell you all about when you visit Fields BMW Orlando.

1. Brakes

Your brake system is comprised of many components designed to slow down or completely stop your vehicle, including the caliper, rotor, and pad. Over time, your brake pads wear out more than the other components of your brake system. If you hear a squeaking sound, this is a good indication that your brake pads need to be replaced.

2. Transmission

Your transmission can come in two different varieties: automatic and manual. No matter which type you choose, this part will help you shift from one gear to another. In order to make sure it can properly do its job, your transmission fluid has to be at the right level.

3. Battery

Your battery is instrumental in running all of the electrical parts in your car. Your starter happens to fall into that category, and without a good battery, you won’t be able to turn on your car. Your starter and battery should both be checked annually to determine how much life they have left.

4. Spark Plugs

Speaking of starting your engine, spark plugs also play a key role in this process. Using fuel from the carburetor and oxygen from the intake tract, the spark plugs create a small explosion. As a result, this makes the piston in the engine cylinder go down, bringing the engine to life.

5. Oil Filter

Clean oil is vital for keeping engine parts lubricated, and your filter has an important job to play. It prevents dirt, dust, and other harmful particles from getting into the oil. Eventually, however, it will get so dirty that it will need to be swapped out.

This is just a small sample of car parts to know about, but familiarizing yourself with these is a good start. If you need any maintenance on any of these components or others, make an appointment with our BMW service center near Winter Park.
