A Look at the Upcoming 2021 BMW X5 Plug-in Hybrid

Here at Fields BMW Orlando, we know that two things are growing in popularity with drivers right now. First, many of them are looking for spacious crossovers and SUVs like the 2018 BMW X5. Second, many drivers want a greener car that reduces their carbon footprint and helps them save at the gas station. An upcoming model could be perfect for drivers who want both of these things in one stylish vehicle.

The 2021 BMW X5 xDrive45e iPerformance is in development right now. It takes everything you love about the BMW X5 and adds plug-in hybrid technology. While it won't show up at American dealerships until 2020, we already know a bit about this green crossover.

It improves on the current BMW X5 xDrive40e in some key ways. That model only offers around 14 miles of all-electric driving range. The 2021 BMW X5 xDrive45e iPerformance will offer around 50 miles of battery-powered driving between charges. That means that a quick trip to the grocery store or even your entire commute might be possible without the need for your gas engine.

Speaking of its powertrain, this model gets a big power upgrade as well. The new 2021 BMW X5 will swap out a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine for a 3.0-liter inline-six engine. Expect a total output of nearly 400 horsepower when the electric motor is factored in. This model is also getting some updates that will improve handling, really making this green crossover earn its “iPerformance” name. We can't wait to see this model for ourselves when it arrives at our dealership.
